Nate McMurray, Democratic candidate in New York’s 27th Congressional District, has proudly won the endorsement of the United Auto Workers (UAW), Region 9 in this election.
UAW Region 9 covers a vast area, including Western and Central New York, New Jersey and parts of Pennsylvania (excluding Franklin, Cumberland, Adams, and York counties) and represents thousands of members, retirees, and their families. Members work in automotive, aerospace and steel industries, and include members at Cornell University in Ithaca, New York. Members make doors, quarter panels, hoods, fenders, and other stamped parts for Ford F-150, 250 and 350 trucks, Flex, Edge, Focus and Econoline vehicles, and for Lincoln MKX and MKTs. They also build the V-22 Osprey troop transport helicopter and the Chinook medium-lift helicopter at the Boeing facility in Philadelphia. Local unions in Western New York under the umbrella of UAW Region 9 include UAW Local 897, which represents active and retired workers at the Ford Buffalo Stamping Plant, and UAW-GM Local 686, which represents active and retired workers making heat exchangers at the GM Components Plant in Lockport NY.
“There’s no question, Nate McMurray is definitely our choice to fight for labor,” said Jeff Binz, UAW 9 Director. “We know that Nate is going to do a great job advocating for and supporting unions, and that he will stand up for democracy and the values of working families in Washington.” Binz, a member of the UAW since 1976, also serves on the UAW International Executive Board.
“I am so honored and proud to have the endorsement of UAW Region 9 in this extremely tight race. UAW members have been on the forefront of the labor movement, fighting to secure good working conditions, fair wages, and quality affordable healthcare and education for all workers,” said McMurray in response. “I look forward to working together with Jeff and UAW Region 9 when I am in Washington to build on these successes and ensure that all working families in Western New York have the dignity and access they need to thrive. They know I will fight every day to protect workers’ rights, create sustainable jobs with fair wages, and expand access to quality healthcare for all.”
